Trinidad and Tobago Project
Medical Clinic for Inner City Poor (in joint partnership with the Rotary Club of Diego Martin in Trinidad)

This project marked the first time the Foundation has operated in a major city outside Canada. The team traveled daily to a clinic set up in a community center in Diego Martin and the patients were shuttled from a poor community in Port of Spain. The volunteers in the clinics tested for high blood pressure and diabetes, taught classes on nutrition, women's health, moms and babies. Patients ranging from babies, children, students, adults and seniors were treated daily.

Our Canadian volunteers were: Dr.Violet Shadd and Dr. Gulshan Lodhi from Kitchener, Ontario, Shannon Wilson, Lori Wilson and Taryn Knowler, nurses from Calgary and Dr. Nii Ani, dentist from Calgary. Trinidad volunteers who joined our team included optometrist Jacinta Chin Aleong, and a nurse from Trinidad. Rotarians Danny Jaggernauth and Inez Sinanan headed up the project with many hours of volunteer time. A number of generous Rotarians provided the accommodation and meals during our stay in Trinidad. Andre Matthews gave us tremendous support. Dr. Rudhi Rickhi and family also provided accommodation and support. Medical supplies were supplied by the Foundation with a generous donation from John Black with Apotex.
