Dr. Violet Shadd, Joyce Middleton, Alex and Kim Squires, Suzy Thompson, Carolyn Lefebvre and Mary Tidlund visited the HIV/AIDs Tumaini Children’s Home in November 2008 and had meetings with Osvaldo the manager and Evelyn the health care person. The Tidlund Foundation funds Evelyne's annual salary . We were very impressed at the improvement of the Children’s Home. In 2005 when we initially visited, there were approximately 45 children at the home. Approximately 26 children had died that year. Evelyne was a volunteer and had just started at the Children's' Home to help out. Since then there has been only been a few children die and none in 2007 and 2008. The impact of donating funds for Evelyne's salary, moved Evelyne from a volunteer to a full time salaried employee. The results in the children are indicated shown in the decreased mortality rate. This is mainly due to the distribution and monitoring of daily medication and the health education that Evelyn provides the children with. The responsibility and acceptance that has been given to each of the children to grow and know that they have a disease that needs to be managed and that life goes on, is evident in the attitude of the children. The children are now living their lives fully.

Wendy Anderson traveled with her daughters – Katherine, Laura and Alex (Stewart) – to Kenya on Safari with Civilized Adventures in August 2005. They visited the Tumaini Children's Home in Nanyuki, Kenya which is a home for 50 HIV positive orphans. The children live in a communitarian way and attend public and private schools, churches, mosque, hospitals outside the home. Upon returning to Calgary, Wendy requested that at her birthday party all the guests gave donations to the Tumaini Children's Home instead of giving her birthday gifts. To date there has been over $3000.00 raised.
In October 2005, Cathy Garratt, Jeff Rolheiser, Rosemary Nash and Mary Tidlund visited the Tumaini Children's Home and donated toys to the children. The few hours spent meeting with the organizers there and playing with the children had a lasting impression on each of us. We are grateful to all the donors that have enabled us to support the Tumaini Children's Home.
Nine year old Sally Stanier has also been fundraising for the home. By contacting her parent's friends and associates and through a presentation at the Mountain Gate Community School Sally has raised over $1000.
