Meru, Kenya – Good Shepherd Sisters’ Shelter for Girls

In the fall of 2005 the Tidlund Foundation visited the Good Shepherd Sisters in Meru, Kenya. They met with the sisters and visited their small shelter where 17 girls live ranging in age from 6-18. The girls that enter the shelter are from slums and poor villages and have dropped out of school due to domestic violence and tension in their homes. The foundation is annually funding the education of ten girls who are now being sent to schools in Meru. The fees for school, tuition and exam fees, textbooks, stationary, school uniforms, medication, shelter, transportation and meals for a year is $1000 per child. After our first year supporting these girls we have received updates that they are doing very well in school and are very grateful for the opportunity to study.
