$80.000 in Medical Supplies for Uganda

An initiative stemming from the Vancouver Dalai Lama conference, the Tidlund Foundation collaborated on shipping a container of medical supplies to Uganda for MedWish, a foundation based in the United States.

AMJ Campbell International sponsored the transport and shipping of the 40 foot container to Uganda; a value of approximately U.S.$11,000. The final destination was to the Nakaseke Lifecare Center and the equipment arrived in August 2010. Within hours they were putting the equipment to use.

About 12,000 people; 81 villages will have direct benefit and over 40,000 will have indirect benefit. Dr. Robert Kalyesubula with the African Community Center for Social Sustainability was instrumental in organizing everything while he was studying in the United States.

Dr. Roberts says, "This equipment means we will be able to see more patients locally. Currently, many patients are referred to hospitals in far away Kampala which results in people going untreated or prematurely opting for a palliative care approach. It will also allow us to attract and train more health workers to work with ACCESS."
